Project: Aspen Re, London

This client's taste was predominantly for painterly painters - the brief - nothing too conceptual, or of shock value; enough art to help transform a new office relocation into large premises in the heart of London's financial city.

With its spectacular views of every major architectural landmark in London’s history, the art had to have its own an impressive scale. Skylines in the city capital can be grey, so works with uplifting color were important as were pieces with an energetic verve. Work with luscious, palpable color exemplify this in Craigie Aitchison's 'Holy Island' landscape and the visceral brushstrokes of Tai Schan Schierenberg’s painting of the 'Storyteller'.

In focusing on the visual and sensory 'mood' created for this environment, some pieces depicted the digital buzz of todays' technological world. A number of artists working with light-box pieces were highlighted in the meeting rooms to create ambient mood, such as Catherine Yass’s Dream series and Emily Allchurch's lightboxes with their tongue in cheek references to London's architecture- past and present. A twinkling light installation by Installation artist, Martin Richman can be found in the main lobby, whose ephemeral pieces shimmer and dance as one approaches the piece, and simmers down as one moves away.
